- The Cycling Scotland cycling friendly employer fund is now open which can provide funding up to £25,000 to improve cycling facilities such as installing cycle parking, purchasing a pool of bikes for use for business journeys or improving changing facilities. - Bike Week UK begins on 30th May with the World’s Biggest Bike Ride! Pledge to ride here: https://www.cyclinguk.org/bikeweek/pledge-to-ride
- Following Bike Week, Cycling UK are putting on a range of online events to support new cycling commuters including advice on road positioning, bike maintenance, route planning and equipment. Come along and encourage your colleagues to join: https://www.cyclinguk.org/bikeweek/cycle-commuter-workshops Participation in cycling events like this could help your workplace to complete Cycling Scotland’s Cycling Friendly Employer Award.
- Active Travel presents the first monthly ‘Cycling, Climate, Coffee & Chat’ session of 2021. It’ll provide fertile ground for all cycle-related and climate-related conversations to grow. We’ll have hints and tips for experienced or budding cyclists, discussions on global solutions to barriers to cycling, and a generally inviting space for climate-conscious cyclists to meet. If you missed the ‘Climate Action Group’ sessions, this is the perfect replacement – with extra emphasis on meeting new people and chatting. - The team are delighted to announce the next Film Club screening of ‘I Am Greta’, a documentary that follows the fantastic Greta Thunberg on her mission to change the world’s view on climate change. The virtual screening will be on Thursday 27th May from 6pm – from the comfort of your own home. Afterwards, Active Travel will hold a virtual chat at 7:30. Health & Wellbeing:
- Bikes for All Nextbike sign ups will be starting in person again from 5th may. Sign ups will alternate at both our hubs, 1st and 3rd Weds of the month at West, 2nd and 4th Weds of the month at South, 2-5pm.
- Health & Wellbeing have started up 10-week blocks of sessions with Phoenix Futures Residential Addiction Recovery Hub and Glasgow City Mission, along with the weekly Women and Non-Binary lessons and led rides which happens every Thursday morning at South and West.
- The team will soon be starting blocks of sessions with several more community organisations, including Queens Cross Housing Association, NG Homes, Homestart, NHS Esteem and Ashgill Recreation Centre.
- The team is also expanding, with two new practitioners joining Health & Wellbeing. One will be helping cover current delivery, and one will work on the upcoming Social Prescribing Project.

- Active travel have been busy with plenty of cycle confidence sessions, with classes booked up as far in advance as June. If you’re interested in a Bike Buddy or road confidence session, email activetravel@bikeforgood.org.uk or book via the website: bikeforgood.org.uk
Health & Wellbeing:
- This month Health & Wellbeing have been getting back to delivery after a long hiatus. Their deliveries for Queens Cross Housing Association have come to an end and now they’ve been enjoying the good weather and riding their bikes again with people!
- Health & Wellbeing launched Pedal Pals this month, and it is now up and running with over 85 people signed up already – look out for the Pedal Pals promo around town and on social media!
- The team completed an Essential Cycling Skills course with women from Mount Vernon Community Centre – with one of their wee daughters in the cargo trailer the whole time!
