Health and Wellbeing

  • For anyone looking for more information on our social prescribing program and how they can get involved, please contact Ali on alasdair@bikeforgood.org.uk
  • Along with our social prescribing for cycling program, we are about to kick of our regular group rides in partnership with community organisations based in the most deprived and isolated areas of the City. Some of these groups include; Shettleston Housing Association, Glasgow Afghan United and The Pyramid at Anderston. We are really looking forward to supporting these groups to take up cycling in order to improve their mental and physical health while at the same time teaching them to make short local journeys by bike.

The past month

Skills and Development

  • Feb was a great month as we finished up the training part of the women & non-binary traineeship and then saw them continue on into the work placements.
  • We are just finishing up with the Venture Trust BYOB course, this will be the last one for this financial year but after talks with them, they are committed to running another 2 courses next year, more ££ to add to the pot
  • Our volunteering programme has lost one member of staff to be replaced by another. Kasia will join the team from the 8th of March and will take over the reigns of Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Jula recruited 60 new volunteers since June last year
  • 21 volunteers have left us since April 2021, of whom 15 went onto positive destinations (work or study) and 11 of these were furthest from the job market.

Health and Wellbeing

  • We have a new team member, Aileen who will be filling the role of Health and Wellbeing cycling practitioner. Aileen will be out and about most of the time delivering our group rides to community groups from the most deprived and isolated communities in Glasgow. Welcome Aileen!!
  • Our social prescribing for cycling 1:1 sessions have started again and all of our participants are enjoying getting outside and building their cycling skills and confidence after a long winter
  • In February we ran a Cycle Trainer course which was attended by our past participants. Taking part in this course has given them all the skills and knowledge to be able to go on to lead their groups within their own local communities.
