Our Sustainable Travel team focus on tackling multiple levels of access to bikes, aiming to make cycling available to all.

We focus on increasing the number of people in Glasgow with access to bikes, by running programmes that tackle transport poverty and increase the number of journeys completed by bike.

We are proud to offer a ground-breaking socially inclusive project called Bikes For All – free access to a city-wide bike hire scheme for individuals experiencing financial insecurity or social exclusion.

who can benefit

People in Glasgow who are experiencing long-term physical or mental health conditions, social exclusion such as isolation, or are on low or no income. We support people to cycling as a tool to manage their conditions, and to gain confidence, enjoyment, and transport options from riding a bike.

Why it’s necessary

Cycling as a means of transport is one of the easiest ways to fit exercise into a daily routine, with proven physical and mental health benefits. We aim to combat loneliness and low confidence, and empower users with an affordable way of travelling around Glasgow.

We have designed this project for it to be sustainable, by providing training and guidance to funds. This is because over 75% of our users wouldn’t have access to a bike otherwise.
